The winter season and the end of the year is an ideal time to reflect upon your blessings and appreciate the lessons learned throughout the year. A time to go within, take an inner pulse on personal spiritual development, recuperate, and replenish one’s spirit. A marvelous opportunity to create intentions and ignite inspiration for the upcoming year.

Reflecting upon 2018, what brought you the most joy? Where did you offer your authentic self and true nature? Where did you witness the most growth and expansion? What opportunities did you have to extend your wisdom? Where did you make a difference in someone’s life? Where did you seize the moment to raise awareness, educate, or raise the vibration or frequency around an issue or areas of concern?

If you were not able to express your authentic self, feel you did not make a difference with your actions or behaviors in the lives of others, step up for an issue of concern, and contribute to elevating consciousness or awareness, what held you back? What prevented you? What caused hesitation or reluctance? Was it an external influence or something within yourself that inhibited you?

Take an honest inventory of where you invested your attention in 2018. Where was your focus, energy, intention, and awareness directed? Was it in appreciation, love, gratitude, trust, empowerment, hope, abundance, progress, inspiring change, uplifting, and positive? Was it in disgust, apathy, anger, rage, disempowerment, lack, stagnation, angst, stress, fear, and negative? A combination? No judgment needed. Just a chance to reflect and gauge where your energy, focus, and awareness pivoted and landed. Recall where your attention was centered and recognize the areas that grew, expanded, and improved, and the places where little to no shifts occurred. Is there a connection?

What you choose to focus upon and give your energy and awareness to becomes your reality for better or worse. Your reality is determined by your choices, both conscious and not. Your reality is a reflection of what you resonate with, what you allow in your energetic field and mental head space – and what you rise to or match energy with, positive, neutral, or negative.

Be mindful of where you direct your attention. What you tune into with your personal frequency becomes your reality and experience. Whether that is being proactive and self-motivated to improve your life, leading with a growth mindset, who you spend your time and interact with, or if you’re absorbed with others’ problems, swept away with things out of your control, consumed with what’s on the news stations, or hypnotized by social media feeds.

The media and messaging we tune into influences the reflected reality we create and perceive by choice or default. What we watch or listen to, what we are affected by, what we choose to address or ignore, what we allow or disallow to feel agitated, marginalized, victimized, disempowered, or not. Where we zoom in with our deliberate attention and how we react all determines what we bring to our reality.

It’s easy to be on auto pilot and triggered when it comes to consuming chronically negative or upsetting media messages. It can be habitual to just accept what we are fed and the “feed” we are given and scroll through. Amongst the media mix, we are fed bullshit served up throughout every part of the day and night. Unless we purposefully create awareness, develop, and sharpen our discerning critical eye, we must find time to tune out, pull back from the noisy static, distractions, disruptions, and detach, — or we experience indigestion and overwhelm from the toxins and drift from our inner truth.

Discover your truth, what is true, relevant, and meaningful for you. Tap into your own thoughts and energy and avert getting sucked into the swirling shit-storm of static, frenetic energy.

A deep breath. Reset. Recalibrate.

Collectively, let us take a deep breath.

We are living in challenging times. Energies are high. Emotions are racing. People are frazzled – unhinged, on edge, and full of adrenaline. Nervous systems are amped up. Just when you think the news or politics can’t get worse, or more bizarre, it does. Or is it really worse, or is it our perception based on what we focus on? Or is it just how the media spin it and direct our attention?

The news media’s chronic dose of fear-mongering, its drama frenzy, the crafting of chaos, and the instigation and antagonization of emotion, continue to rile many of us up and ruffle feathers. This not only feeds the anxiety and panic, it gloriously thrives on it.

Even if you do not own a TV, have cable, or traditionally access corporate-owned news media through newspapers, radio or television outlets, — news soundbites, video clips, and headline fragments, are also pervasive throughout social media and widely available throughout everyone’s stories, feeds, tweets, and opinionated comments. All of this imagery and content can be overstimulating, upsetting, and jarring. It’s difficult to avoid the mainstream media news circus, the political dog and “phony” show, issues du jour, and pop culture’s influence — it’s ubiquitous.

Constant connectivity. Being plugged in, tuned in, and being exposed to an endless amount of external inputs, stations, channels, feeds, who to follow, maintaining a social media presence, keeping up to date with current affairs, the political pulse, what’s trending, which causes and issues are in dire need of your attention, and dedicating hours to those causes that touch your heart and rattle your core, can be exhilarating – and exhausting.

Pull back and observe how mass media deliver their messages and recognize how you feel when you are accessing and absorbing media. Watch where your energy goes. Media compete for your attention, your clicks, follows, retweets, likes, your eyeballs, and ultimately your mind and mighty dollar.

Mass media lead with what bleeds, what’s outrageous and unfathomable, what tugs on your heartstrings, elicits shock, and what will generate the most emotionally charged reactions. The controlling elite’s desire to keep us in a rattled, hopeless, powerless state can be paralyzing for those who resonate with their fearful frequency. It’s not as easy to take action and mobilize activism efforts if you’re tapped out, emotionally or mentally fried, or triggered.

It can be laborious to integrate all the media content we consume when we have not had adequate time to process the information or digest what we’re fed and deliberately consume. Let alone effectively act to ignite change. If you’re overwhelmed to the point of paralysis. Or feel like you can’t keep up, or you cannot pull back or pull away from the media train wreck – even when it angers you, this may be a sign to reset. It’s seductive to be engaged, yet destructive when you’re so enraged, you do nothing. What’s worse is being stuck in this circular pattern within a media spin cycle of agitation that never ends – unless you unplug.

Avert overwhelm, panic, and this perpetual state of the social media fight or flight response by retreating from this emotionally stimulating roller coaster, on your terms. Do it for self-preservation and energy conservation. Taking a social media and mass media break is not recklessly turning your back on current affairs, or ignorantly disconnecting from “reality”, but instead, it’s a much needed empowering form of self-care.

Do a digital detox. Disconnect from your devices. Reset your mindset. Recharge.

Together, we can navigate forward if we are centered, united, and not divided.

Who benefits from us being divided and at each other’s throats, slinging cheap shots over the strategically placed political antics and shenanigans of the day? Dividing the populace over issues, racism, sexism, classism, economics, sexuality, human rights, and every and any topic they choose to manipulate only benefits the ones in control. It would be counterproductive and destructive for their agenda if we are centered, united, collaborated, worked together, joined hand in hand, and rose up — unified. We’re capable of overlooking our differences to realize that we are more similar than we are different. We’re not victims of their constructed agenda unless we allow ourselves to be victimized. We’re capable of not being emotionally rattled and driven by fear. And we’re more resilient when we allow ourselves to recharge and reset.

Stay grounded, be informed, be alert, and stay connected to each other, and to your own guidance system. Make time to reset, recalibrate, and retreat within. Access your voice and harmony amongst the media noise, social media pollution, fear-based sewage, and crazy-making chaos. Lead with clarity and with the vision you want to create. Transcend and override fear, worry, doubt, distraction, and confusion, — by tuning into your wisdom and heart and tuning out what doesn’t serve you.

Unite and work together, as we all recharge, recalibrate, and reset our own batteries and tap into our own power.
